Give Him an Amen

The Winstons have a drum solo on one of their records, it's been sampled in loads of genres and an insane amount of tracks, it deserves respect, it finally has it's own little documentation.

I'm not someone who points to a single interesting link through his blog but this got enough respect from me to do so. Thanks to De:Bug for this one.

Nate Harrison put up a documentation on the Amen Break, a sample that had a significant impact on various genres and ultimately the landscape called music as we know it today. I knew just a little about it, basically that it existed, but his documentation transforms it into a cultural journey. All thumbs I can find up for Can I Get An Amen?.

Lousy Laziness

I haven't blogged anything for a few weeks, time to catch up... in form of a list in no particular order.

I'm sorry for my abstinence. A quick overview what happened since the 18th of June.

  • I scratched my PowerBook on purpose, and have written a full entry about that but see yourself. It looks a little rough at the moment but I think I'm going to do a little more work on it.
  • I broke the power law.
  • I got a 30GB iPod Photo. Yes I'm happy with it, it does what I want. And I scare people in the tramway with Making Orange Things
  • Donauinselfest was good (even though a little crowded), Dälek great, Element of Crime calming, Quit Your Dayjob fun, Le Tigre rocking and Christoph & Lollo sweet. Why the hell did they play Gustav after some show at the Hardcore stage?!
  • Last week Leo called me from Croatia that I should please blog about the National Park Mljet, who's price at a rainy Sunday at 5 pm (only one hour left until they close) is insane 90 Croatian Kuna (about €13 Leo said). Don't go there! (Sorry for the really bad delay Leo).
  • Why can't enclosures for RSS 1.0 and 1.1 look similar to <fict:enclosure rdf:resource="http://example.org/american-motor-over-smolded-field.mp3" dc:format="audio/mpeg" fict:length="14784921" />? It's valid! I mean, where is the problem to write this and support this in various apps?
  • I need to write a follow up to Jahr der Ziehharmonika, great ideas although I don't fully agree with Johan. (By the way, why did you change your design?)
  • It looks as if I'm moving out in September. Really. We haven't got a flat yet, but that shouldn't be much of a problem. I should hurry with getting a job that pays by month ;)
  • Someone did an amazing video for Venetian Snares' song Szamár Madar. I've got a mirror in case it doesn't work.

About me

Michael Zeltner
PhotoMale Viennese citizen. At the moment he is mainly webapplication developer but also almost-somewhat-artist (blah). He has been part of the Plone UI Team. His weird taste in music and art often gets smiles, but that may also be caused by his slow and/or confusing form of expression. More shall follow.
